    End of the sch0ol term

Today both GDs have broken up for the summer holidays. It's been a big day for them as both start new schools in September.

It always takes me back to my years of teaching, and the mixed emotions of students leaving and going out into the big wide world, whether to jobs or uni, and end of term celebrations for them and the staff. There were always some students you knew you would really miss, and perhaps a few you could do no more than hope for the best for them. Then there was the thought of having a few weeks to unwind and before starting to prepare for the new year in September. It always seemed to be sunny, and we'd have a big staff party on the lawn on the last day. Great fun, and happy memories.

My DS2 has his school Prom tonight as well. I do hope he enjoys it.

When are your school-age GCs breaking up?

I've lost track a bit of school holidays.
Not having any school age grandchildren.

Hope all the children have a good school holiday.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Ours break up on Friday. GS1 at midday, GD and GS2 at 2.10
I am only bringing GS home, as the year 6 leavers are informally doing something after school.
Every class has had a pool party this week (the school has a pool) and there will be a leavers assembly for Year 6.
I feel emotional about GD moving on from primary school so she and her mum will really feel it.

Gem - I feel the same - quite emotional, especially as it's all 4 GCs moving on this time. GD2 had a leavers assembly today, and she was presented with a lovely plaque - for something like enthusiasm, hard work and kindness. (Not sure of the exact wording).

Their mum took a photo of GD2, leaving Infants school in exactly the same place as one she took the day GD2 started. You don't realise how much they've grown!

They are all growing up FAR too fast.

I agree - and there's something about the move up to secondary school - you know they are on the cusp of becoming teenagers and things will change.

It makes you think back, too! I remember when our DS2 was leaving primary school. It was a lovely group of children, all living in our small village and they desperately wanted a leaving party but the head wouldn't let them have one. So us mums and their teacher organised a disco for them at our house. We had a huge sun room and a little overground swimming pool and we all got together to make food, organise drinks, games, music etc and their lovely teacher and his wife came. It was a good send off for them, but it struck me then that the girls in particular were already growing up. Dressed in the latest fashions, and wanting to dance rather than swim!
