    School residential trips

Are any grandchildren going on one of these this term?

My GD will be away next week from Tuesday until Friday, so 2 nights and 3 days. I think that's quite long enough.
She has had concerns and if it was optional she probably wouldn't be going!

She is feeling far more positive now than a couple of weeks ago though, and although apprehensive I think she's also a bit excited.

I'm sure she will have a good time actually. I have told her that DD3 was really apprehensive at her age. She had a brilliant time and came back happy, tired and grubby! I missed her terribly, but it was a great experience for her .

Both Gds went on them before the lock down, maybe this year they will be allowed to go again, GD2 had problems the first few years but really enjoyed them when she finally got used to it.

I'm surprised that residential trips are being allowed at the moment Gem! It was my worst nightmare as a teacher, going on residential trips, you never knew what might happen!!

I remember finding alcohol in one child's bag......and they were Yr 6 children!! Parents weren't happy when told to come and collect her!

Well classes are in a bubble WG so I suppose being together at school or elsewhere it's much the same.

          Good grief re the alcohol!!

Totally understandable that GD is a bit apprehensive, but i hope she enjoys it.

I don't think any of our GCs have got school residential trips booked this year.

GD2 (Year 11) is going on a National Citizen Service course in August. He's very keen and his mum and dad think it will help him to get back into a more normal life after the isolations of the last year. Between that and his school Prom he's very excited.

WeeGranny - I used to enjoy going on residential trips with students - but taking care of 16-17 year olds is vastly different from Year 6. I used to go to the Cadet camp with the college's cadet force which was always fun, and to Swansea Uni with business studies students, which I enjoyed as well. One year I went as 'mummy helper' to my DS1's school at an adventure centre which was exhausting but I didn't have any real responsibilities except generally helping where needed, although I did find myself refereeing a football match at 6 am one day!

I'm happy to say that she's back and had a fantastic time
I'm so glad her school got to do this. They have missed a lot of their final primary school year, and it was important they had this.

I saw her briefly yesterday, but will no doubt hear all about it on the drive home from school next Friday!

Gem - that's great. She will always remember that trip. I bet you can't wait to hear all about it - don't forget to tell us as well. x
