    Well done GD1

On Saturday my GD1 got her 11+ results and she has achieved the standard needed to be considered for a place. However the grammar school is massively over-subscribed, and not everyone who passes gets a place. So we were delighted for her that she had 'passed' but still biting our nails!

The headmaster of the grammar school rang her parents this morning to say she was 'comfortably' in the top 130 and is offered a place for September!

Amid everything else that's going on for this family and everyone in general this is such good news. We're sure she will be over the moon, and so are we.

Wow, well done and CONGRATULATIONS to GD1 Daisy!

So good that she has a offer of a place too!
As you say, your family could do with something happy and positive.
    So happy for you all

Congratulations and a huge well done. Her hard work has certainly paid off. You must be very proud.

We're really pleased for her. She loves learning and it's never a chore for her and we think she will like the academic pace at the grammar school. She soon gets bored if work is too easy, bless her. None of use would have pushed her to do the 11+, but it's what she wanted.

Oma, funny you should say about a nice treat. Her dad was telling me that they didn't know how to mark her success. In my day most kids got a bike for passing the 11+ (I didn't, but I did get a very nice fountain pen, which I loved). GD is desperate to have her first phone - most of her friends already have them - but her parents were holding out until the summer term, her last term at junior school. So naughty Grandma suggested they surprised her with a phone now. It arrives tomorrow (she doesn't know) and I'm sure she will be over the moon with it.

(We will help with the cost of it!)

Plant - the iconic Chopper bikes - it was every child's dream bike at that time wasn't it!

My OH got a much wanted bike for passing his 11+, and so did all his older siblings. Then his youngest brother didn't pass, but still got a bike! OH was pleased for his brother, but a bit put out nevertheless!! Our DS's didn't take the 11+ no the situation never arose.

GS 1 learned yesterday that he has passed the Kent test. The Bexley test results are next week so he is assured of a grammar place; naturally, we are pleased for him (he wasn’t coached) and didn’t think he stood a chance because of his casual approach. And we all have conflicted feelings. We hate the system of separating children at 11 but their borough maintains the testing regime.

And I so feel for the children who will go into school and know they haven’t ‘passed’ while others know they have. R has been told firmly not to say anything and only tell his friends if they ask, but it soon becomes common knowledge.

I went to a grammar school (which wasn’t very good) and OH to a secondary modern (which wasn’t very good either). Both our children went to a Greenwich comprehensive and got an education that was a hundred times better than ours. Sadly, that wasn’t an option for the grandson because they are too far out of the catchment area for our borough.

R phoned us last evening to tell us and we said well done with lots of praise etc, but really, he just happens to be one of those laid back boys who can pull it out of the bag when necessary. So, he won’t be getting rewards, even though it’s an impulse to do so. I remember the neighbours clubbing together to buy the two on our street who were selected, a geometry set (we lived on a big Council estate and no one had any money) and being bewildered at the stuff inside. It didn’t do me much good, I never could do maths.

Just glad the tension is one removed! I wouldn’t like to have to go through all that again.

Well done to Sum1Ls 's and Daisy 's GD 's . A really good achievement in what must have been a difficult time during the school terms .
I think the young children and young adults are coping really well with the challenges that this year has thrown at them. Growing up isn't always easy for them.
Bring me sunshine in your smile.
