    Science lesson

My older grandson age 7 has not been too impressed with home schooling especially the lack of other child companionship.
Today however he had a very successful science lesson

With DD he filled a bottle with hot water, tipped it out, then put a balloon on the top to see what would happen.
Here on the photo is his amazed face!

Well done to your DD, and to your GS for the look on his face. That must have been quite a surprise for him. It's a great idea to have a 'themed' day as well.!

Our GD2's project for this term is The Beach, so yesterday their mum took them down to collect various items, take photos etc. (It's only a mile from their house, so not hideously breaking rules, and the beach was deserted.) Today, GD1 did Maths - she worked out her age in seconds. Then worked out her mum's age - and when DIL tried to check it her phone calculator couldn't cope with the numbers!

GD1's project is related to South American indigenous peoples, and she's making a talking stick! Probably a very useful thing to have in the home during this crisis.

Well done DD and GS. Science was one of my favourite subjects at school.

Well done to the parents who can do it. You have my sincere admiration. My poor DD2 is so very tired & says it's almost impossible to home school whilst working from home. Because they're so tiny, when mummy is at home their outlook is .... let's do stuff together. Seems like they won't leave her alone. So like many other parents she's juggling her time between home & office.

Gem, I'll have to try the bottle trick tomoro & impress my OH. Ha!

Nana, these parents have a very difficult task don't they? Home schooling, and keeping children happy (my GS1 has been very unhappy and angry at the whole situation at times) plus working and maintaining their own health and sanity. I have always said parents are the unsung heroes at the moment.

Any 'home schooling' is admirable but to be honest, keeping them and yourself alive and amused and as happy as can be are the targets for parents to my mind. Education as such is an added bonus. Having worked in schools I know just how much time a child spends not learning anything in an average day. That can be achieved a in short time with the individual attention children are getting at home now.

All our DDs, DDs SILs and DILs are doing well

Gem, I totally agree. Home schooling is a smart idea thought up by people who probably don't have to do it, and aren't trying to work from home at the same time. My DS1 was saying last night how many people he's in contact with who are having to work on the kitchen table with family life going on around them, and small children needing lots of attention. It's very difficult, plus trying to teach something completely alien to you. Even helping with homework in normal times can be daunting. Imagine trying to teach say Maths to Year 10s, or even Year 1s!

I think as you say, keeping the children alive, happy and reasonably amused is more than enough. Plus spending time together - which is what the children will remember in years to come.
