    A good day

Yesterday we had all three grandchildren for the day, the only time this summer holidays we have had all 3 together.
It didn't start too well. DD1 dropped off all three. GS1 was clinging to her literally , being a pain and not wanting her to go, making her late for work. I had to have stern words once she went, as it is all silly, he is happy to be here and be with his cousins.
Anyway, I left him to his own devices and after a while went to see him in the garden. He just chatted as if nothing was wrong, so we let it go.

9 year old GD spends a lot of time upside down or spinning in the air! After a while playing with the Barbies etc, she said she would like to do some gymnastics outside. We decided to bring an old futon mattress (which we keep for this purpose) down from the loft. Both older children's ears pricked up at the word loft and they asked if they could go up there. Up went OH, followed by first GD then GS1. GS2 and I waited at the foot of the ladder. They loved it up there. There is light and it is boarded out. In fact GS1 wished for rain so we would have to put the mattress back up! We have promised him he can go up again with OH another time.

The three children played with this mattress in the garden for a very long time and had lots of fun. Later whilst I prepared lunch GD played a Harry Potter game on my laptop and GS1 watched her. GS2 played with a very old dolls house which we have in the garage. OH brought it outside for him and he seemed to really enjoy it.
After a lunch of sandwiches, crisps, tomatoes and cucumber, and cake we all went to the local park. Everyone had fun and used a lot of energy. At one point GS2 was on the 'roundybout', as he calls it. Some older children came on and started spinning it fast. I told them to slow down as he was only 3. They didn't slow down enough so I told them if you get on when a younger child in already on, you go at their pace - Slow Down. So they did. The funny thing was GS kept saying to them all loudly (and he is generally loud) 'I'm only 3!' Over and over again
Home for pasta for tea and more chat around the table. Then some TV time, then DD2 came to take them all home.

A very nice day, ending with a friend round and a takeaway, so no more cooking!

Gem - a good day, indeed. It it these long summer days when all three are together with Grandma that they'll remember for ever. I'm sure you were glad not to be cooking in the evening though - you must have been exhausted.

Isn't it funny that all the expensive electronic gadgets are ignored when there's an old futon, dolls house or loft on offer! It reminded me that when our two were small they shared an enormous bedroom and we had an old double bed mattress which we covered with a sheet and they had their very own trampoline/bouncer/gymnastics mat in their room. On a rainy day they and any visiting children would spend hours playing on it, plus it was there for impromptu sleepovers.

It is funny isn't it Daisy? We spent nothing that day (the ice cream van didn't even turn up at the park as it often does!) Old things to play with and a loft ladder to climb kept them happy

I bet all the children loved that mattress Daisy!

Gem, what a lovely day tou all had. both of your DGS's are braver than me.
I won't go in the loft. Ours is boarded out and has a light in, but i don't fancy going in.
Saving an old mattress sounds like a good idea.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Nan2, I won't go in the loft either!!!

We got rid of an old futon, from my old house, a few years ago, and replaced it with a new sofa bed. OH used the wood from the futon, and we planned on taking the well used mattress to the tip. It was OH's suggestion to keep it warm and dry in the loft in case the CG would use it in the garden in the summer. I think this is the third summer they have used it. We haven't taken it back up yet as GD and GS2 are here for the day again on Monday.

You're right, Gem. They all thought it was wonderful! We eventually parted with it when we moved house.
