    Goodbye to babyhood

We have had a cot in our spare room since we moved here over 8 years ago. Before that it was in my bedroom in my previous house, once my granddaughter outgrew the crib.
2 grandsons have arrived since we moved here, so it never seemed worth dismantling the cot.
GS2 is now 3 years old. He gave up his daytime nap a couple of months ago. We didn't take the cot down though, as he would need it if he came for a sleepover.
He is now in a bed at home, his cotbed sides having been taken off. Our cot will no longer be used.
This weekend I decided we must take it down. I have washed all the cot bedding to put away. I will wash down the cot and we will put it in the loft with other baby equipment .

No more babies on the cards for DDs 1 or 2, but I don't know about their sister. She is only 31, so there is time. So for now all baby stuff stays

Sad to say goodbye to my youngest GS's baby days, they pass so fast don't they?

Thanks Oma. Silly I know but it's an end of an era thing isn't it?
I am not all that hopeful that DD3 will have any (although they both love kids and my GC adore them)
You never know though I suppose.

No more babies for us, unless we have great granchildren.
The only things we have left are a few toys form each of the girls.
I still have a few teddies from both sons, and they are 47 and 50 now.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I know just how you feel I think I wrote a thread on this a long time ago, I’ve kept some toys, just given up with the bed sides now they can finally manage not to roll out of bed , but I’m sure you still have some babies to come 🤰🏼🤱🏼

Gem - I do hope that cot will be brought out of retirement at some point. You never know! But it is sad, but also a sign that your lovely GCs are growing up and gaining independence. This is what we want for them in the long run - to be strong, capable and independent.

There will be no more GCs for us either, but I'm not sad about it - just very grateful for the 4 amazing GC I've been blessed with. Somehow I never expected any!

I know the feeling Gem, I am trying to sort the "toys" out, but, when Madelief is here she says "you can't throw that out nan", so slowly I am getting rid of some of them, can't bare to part with everything though!!!! I do have the 2 beds for the girls when they sleep here, as they are full size single beds and fold against the wall they are not in the way and can use them anytime someone stays. As Daisy said, I never expected any grandchildren either so they are an extra blessing, son and DIL were together 18 years before the first one arrived, quite a surprise for me!

My DDs were both in their 30s and had been with their OHs for years. I knew they planned children though, so it wasn't a suprise

We still use the cot as youngest gs is 14 months, but time passes quickly and it won’t be long before it’s not needed. I’m just thinking about letting the baby walker go as he’s toddling around on his own now.

It’s funny isn’t it I never expected any g/c my Dd never wanted to hold new babies in the family or couldn’t wait to give them up back , she was very career minded then one day she said sitting in the office garden there must be more to life than this, and she said she had an epiphany and thought a baby would help lol, she went home and gold OH and be said ok lol, she was nearly 30 by this time but there will be no more .DS was still at home till he was 35 so we thought he was never leaving😱 then he met a colleague of my Dd and that was that , it took sometime and tears to get any more family and then like buses. 2 came at the same time 👶🏻👧

We where only talking about this yesterday but not putting the cot away altogether just putting the sides in her loft, DD said we need to put the sides down on the cot bed she has in her room and replace with the bed guard for little Noah he is only 16mths old but climbs over the cot sides and has tunbled onto the carpet a couple of times at least if we have the guard at the side of the cotbed he won't have too far to fall if he takes a tumble.
We have such a lot of really good FP toys in our loft at the minute but they are too old for him at the moment they will have to stay there for a couple of years I think.
