Bursting with Pride

As you know my GS1 is on the autistic spectrum and currently goes to a school which specialises in ASD and Dyslexia. He gets picked up and returned by minibus every day.

Today, on the way to school one of the other boys in the taxi suffered an epileptic seizure. GS1 got the driver to stop, rang for an ambulance, got the other children out of the taxi to a safe place, and rang the school to tell them what was happening. We're all so proud of him.

The boy was taken to hospital and is absolutely fine.

That is so encouraging. For him to act on his own initiative and take control of what is potentially a frightening situation shows how much he has matured and made progress and bodes really well for the future. Well done him.

Daisy no the wonder your bursting with pride . A hidden talent there keeping calm in an emergency situation.
There will be a lot of people without his condition who would have gone into panic mode .

Wow Daisy, that is fantastic. We don’t really know what any of us are capable of unless put to the test. GS1 certainly exceeded any ones expectations. Any grown adult could be forgiven for falling to pieces in such a situation, yet this young man handled the situation amazingly. I hope he realises himself how well he actually handled everything. Thank you all so much - I'm going to pass on your messages to him. He stayed very calm at the time, but when I messaged him last night he was quite literally shaking and he was exhausted. I've just spoken to his dad, and he was still a bit subdued this morning.

Sunshine - I don't think he realised how well he'd handled the situation. Anxiety and low self-esteem often go with ASD. He was amazed in September when he was voted a Prefect by the other pupils.

It's also made him think about some of the language teenagers use, and unprompted by his parents, he says there are certain words he'll never say again in a derogatory sense.

We're hoping he can start to see that he's a credit to himself as well. He's a bright lad with significant talents, but he can't see it and sometimes lets himself down in silly ways. Plus, of course, the normal 'being a teenager'. He's got a lot to cope with.
