    Who's a Proud Grandma, then

DS2 and DIL had a letter from school a couple of weeks ago saying that GD1 had won the Academic Award - given to one girl and one boy in each class. But it was a secret - GD wasn't to know until the award was presented at Assembly this morning, and her parents were invited!

She has wanted to win this ever since she started the school - so she was going to be super excited. So were proud mummy and daddy!

As soon as she saw her parents in assembly she realised why they were there and gave them double thumbs up with a big grin on her little face. She got a framed certificate, and a treat of a day out in Bournemouth with the headmaster to go to the theatre to see Sleeping Beauty. When the presentations were over she ran round to where her parents were, jumped on her dad's lap, and burst into tears of happiness.

I'll hopefully get some photos later.

Thank you all, ladies - I'll pass on all messages.

What has really made me proud of her is that the award was for excellent work in all subjects and for her determination! She generally finds school work easy, and enjoys it, but her teacher had given her some extra hard Maths and there was one difficult question she got stuck on. The teacher offered her a clue, but she said no, thank you, and wanted to sort it out herself. Later in the day when they had 'free choice' time, she came back to it again, and the teacher offered a clue again, but she insisted she wanted to solve the problem herself. Some time later the teacher heard a jubilant "Yesssss" - she'd kept nagging away at it until she'd solved it.

Her parents never put any pressure on her - she just enjoys learning, which as an ex-teacher I think is wonderful.
