    Painting day

Both GDs wanted to paint this morning. So after several phone calls to mummy to find table protection, paints etc, etc, clothes protection, we eventually got started.

GD1 had been given a pottery mug with two images of a fairy on it to paint. GD2 wanted me to draw her a picture to paint! Typically after a max of 5 minutes GD2 'doesn't want' to paint anymore, but today for the first time, she got engrossed. Her paintings are generally a mass of splodges that even her adoring Grandma can't see much artistic merit in.

GD1, on the other hand, enjoys details and always aims for what she sees as perfection, which can result in a lot of half-finished artworks in the bin!

Today, GD1 worked with great concentration on her first fairy. She was a bit frustrated that the supplied paints didn't include white, so we experimented with diluting the colours with water and she was happy with that.

While I was creating (ahem!!) a mass of bubbles from a bottle for GD2 to paint she got started freehand. "A flower", she said, "I'm going to paint a flower!" Okaaaay! Splodge, splash, a circle of neon pink paint appeared top left on the page, followed by a green stalk and even a leaf. "Petals now", she insisted. This is where it will all go pear-shaped, Grandma-of-little-faith thought! Quick finish drawing bubbles so she can go straight on to that when GD2's petals take over the whole page.

These were the results! Being honest about it, it's the first time GD2 has produced a recognisable picture!!!

A good morning’s work. I love the flower. You should frame it.

Awww - you're all very kind.

Clover - her mum is going to frame the flower.

Oma - GD2 only had 4 tubes of bright acrylics to choose from, so she mixed the green herself. I liked her use of negative space, but I think it was accidental not a carefully chosen artistic decision!!!

They are both great, GD1 has been very careful not to go over the lines and the flower is brilliant, well done GM.

Plant - GD1 is very careful. She made a 'mistake' early on and cleaned all the paint off and started again! GD2 is more of a free spirit!

I can see the tongue-out type of concentration from Gd1, very neat, and the flair from Gd2. A splendid mornings work Daisy. πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ»
