    Communication?

My 12 year old GD is a bit of a chatterbox, and it seems this extends into messages etc. Her school is between her parents' shop and where they live, so she either walks up to the shop after school, or walks home with friends. Her Mum and Dad ask her to let them know each day what she's doing. So yesterday, she was walking with friends, and being 12 year old girls they kept changing their plans and GD was meticulous in keeping Dad updated - very meticulous. This is a summary of what happened:

GD: Daddy, do you mind if I go to E's house today?
Dad: It depends how and when you are getting home really.
GD: We are just waiting for M.
Dad: So you're going to E's?
GD: Yep we are walking out of the school now. We are going my way through the crescent as it's quicker.
Dad: That's fine. What time are you planning on being home?
    GD: 5.00?
    Dad: That's fine. Have fun.
GD: Thank you. We are at M's house so now we are going to go the alleyway way behind our house to go to E's house.
Dad: Ok, P, thanks for the update.
GD: It's ok. xx. Awww we just ran into M's cat and he's following us.
Dad: Lol, bless (obviously a bit stuck for an appropriate comment.)
GD: He is following us too much. We are near the corner shop so we are trying to make him turn around since M is scared he'll get run over.
Dad: Just take him back, P.
GD: E is doing that and I'm waiting with M just out of the alleyway.
Dad: Ok. Sounds like a good plan.
<photo of said alleyway, which backs on to their own house>
GD: She's back! Alright we are moving again.
    Dad: Well done.
GD: We are here. E is making us iced coffee!! Don't worry, it's decaff.
    Dad: LOL. Enjoy!
GD: Thank you, we will. Love you!!
    Dad: You too!
<photo of half drunk iced coffee>
    GD: Ta daaaaa
Dad: Oooh, looks yummy! Do you like it?
GD: Yes! It's so good! Perfectly milky but not too weak!
    Dad: Awesome!

There followed further messages about wanting an extension, as they were busy playing cards. When she got home DS had a chat with her about perhaps sticking to important, relevant info. I wondered if Mum and Dad have over-emphasised the need for GD to keep in touch when she's out and about.

Lizzie, and this is the edited version.

Oma, I think her Mum and Dad feel it's a bit of a tightrope - letting her have freedom to grow up and (hopefully) be sensible, and keeping her safe. I'm glad I'm not bringing up children these days. She is sensible, and she's very protective of her friend M who is autistic and finds a lot of everyday things difficult. I'm very proud of the way she takes care of her.
