    It's the attitude that counts

GD2 has just started in Year 3. This year they have Science with a different teacher, not her class teacher.

After the first Science lesson her mum asked GD about it - what was it like, what was the teacher like, etc. GD was quite dismissive about the poor teacher, saying that she was strict and grumpy.

    Nothing more was said.

After the second lesson, mum again asked GD how had it gone. "It was good", replied GD, "she's had a change of attitude and was much more cheerful."

She has got an old head on young shoulders, and she's very observant about people, but the way she says things - very matter of fact - is so funny. I always used to say her older sister had been here before because she seemed to know things without being told.

The latest is that GD2 has got a little boyfriend. Apparently he asked her to be his girl friend (who says romance is dead!) and she didn't quite hear so there followed a rather confused conversation before they sorted it out! But he hasn't kissed her yet. Dad says she's not allowed out of the house until she's 37!

Haha, Nanto. That's what I said.

I think they'll have their hands full long before she's 37.

Yesterday's gem - she came home from school and said she'd got on the Sparkly Starfish chart again (acknowledgement for good, work, extra effort or doing something to help someone). When mum asked what it was for she said she noticed someone had left a tap on in the cloakroom so she turned it off. A member of staff saw her do it and thought it was worth rewarding.

Anyway, bedtime came and she was doing everything except get ready for bed, and dad had asked her several times to put down the toy she was waving around. Then she waved it round again and hit her dad with it on his foot which is still painful after an injury. Exasperation surfaced (in dad) and he told her to put the b****y toy down. He never swears normally and immediately felt awful. Anyway he apologised, and said why it had hurt so much. Finally she was off to bed and he gave her a kiss and cuddle and said well done again for getting on the Sparkly Starfish. She shrugged a bit dismissively and said "I only turned the b****y tap off."

They then had a discussion about why you didn't use that word, and neither of them should have used it.

Plant - she's naturally funny and a bit quirky. I hope she never loses her individuality - I love her just as she is.
