    Silly names

My GDs and I were chatting about names yesterday. GD1 has a new girl in the class with the same name as her, and we were discussing whether they use the shortened version or the full version of their names. GD1 was a bit disgruntled that she had to 'share' her name. So I said her mummy and daddy had spent a lot of time choosing their names, and they both have 3-syllable names which can be shortened (and usually are). To emphasise my point I said they could have been given really silly names that they'd hate, like .....<thinking and looking round> "Curtains" or "Gas Fire".

GD1 contributed another couple of silly names, and then GD2 piped up "or Waccy Baccy"!

I said all innocently, "what's that?" and she said she didn't know but it was a good name!

You do wonder where they hear some things.

But it reminded me of friends getting a puppy and foolishly saying the youngest son could choose its name. So they had 14 or 15 years of the embarrassment of shouting "Here, Spliff"!!

There are some very strange names being given here at the moment, but, what I must say is, when we first lived here, not talking Dutch, we had a small dog, I called it Candy, only to find out later that Candy was a sex magazine!!

Plant - we were wondering that, too, but imagine it was in the playground!

She just liked the sound of the words and had no idea what it meant!

Edit - by the time the friends found out the meaning of their puppy's name it was too late to change it!!

Years ago when my friend had a baby girl, they asked her little brother what he would like to call the baby. He said, Tabby, after the cat! They didn’t 😀

I have told you ladies this previously, when my youngest son was born he had the family ginger cast for hair, eldest asked what was his name and I said he is called Ross eldest son looked back in the crib and said OK he does look like a fish finger every time I looked in the crib after that comment all I saw was a fishfinger looking back again so his name was quickly changed to Benn I did get my Ross many years later when my DD gave birth to my 4th grandson he had a mop of black hair by the way.

Glamm - I love the way children say it as they see it. I can't help giggling, imagining you as a proud new mum to - a fish finger! But I'm glad you got your Ross in the end.

My DD for many years insisted in calling her Brother Brozzil in stead of Brian ,
She still sometimes calls him that now , no idea why but can you imagine this tiny baby getting called Brozzil
