On the way home from collecting GD (9 and a half) from school yesterday I needed something from the shop. I called into the little Sainsbury's in the village on the way home, informing GD of my plans as we drove. GS2 (just 3) is always really tired and a bit grumpy by Friday afternoon, still adjusting to the lack of an afternoon nap. Rather than get him out of the car just to get him straight back in we agreed the children would stay in the car, which I parked opposite the back door of the store. I was in, picked up what I needed, through the self checkout and back out in no time. GD happy, and the car locked. GS didn't look totally happy to be left but I said 'T is looking after you, Grandma will be coming back through that door very soon'
When I arrived back he looked very glad to see me, even more so when he saw I had picked up some Cadbury's mini rolls as well
When we drove down the road. GD told me that GS had said, 'We've lost Grandma!' Followed by a wail of 'And I love Grandma!'
Maybe he's not ready to be left like that even for a couple of minutes.
He does have taste for the dramatic though
