    A Smile from Long Ago

The recent posts about libraries reminded me of something that happened when my DS1 was about 6.

We were in the queue waiting to have our books stamped one Saturday morning. Just as we got to the counter, DS1 bent down and picked up a 50p piece. At the time, this was more than a week's pocket money for him. "Look, Mum, look what I've found".

What I saw was a chance to practice a little honesty, so I said it must belong to someone so he couldn't just take it. He handed it in to the librarian, who duly made a note of his name and address and told him that if it wasn't claimed by next Saturday he could keep it.

This became a long week in DS's life and on the following Saturday he couldn't wait to see if it had been claimed or not. He was thrilled to find it hadn't been claimed and the librarian solemnly handed over the precious 50p.

As we walked away, DS, bouncing up and down with excitement, said "Wasn't it a good job I saw that man drop it!"

"Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

Made me laugh! DS, having visited the library with his big sister from when he was only a few weeks old, suddenly refused point blank to go through the door. The librarian was Miss Frost and he thought she was related to Jack Frost who would “bite off your fingers and bite off your toes and if you’re not careful he’ll bite off your nose”.
                  xx

What a lovely thread this is turning out to be.

Shem - poor little lad. No wonder he didn't want to venture in there! Did Miss Frost see the funny side of it, or didn't she know?

It's a bit like my GD2 thinking Mary had a little lamb instead of the Baby Jesus.
