    Interesting time ahead!

GD2 came home from school today with a little note saying she had been chosen to play Mary in the Nativity play, and please could she have a costume like the one illustrated in the note. Fortunately the other Gran is a whizz with a sewing machine.

Her mum and I were surprised, verging on shocked! GD2 is bright, confident, cheeky, funny and has never channelled her 'meek and mild' as far as we know.

Her big sister was at an after school activity so I gave her a snack and we sat cuddled up watching tv. She was holding her dolly, called Christabelle. We started chatting about the Nativity play and I asked what she had to do/say. She didn't know - after all it's a whole two weeks away! So I suggested she might have to hold a dolly and cuddle it, like the Baby. Why, she asked. Because Mary had a little baby called Jesus, I explained.

"Oh, no!" GD was most indignant. "Mary had a little lamb".

Gem - to be honest, it had never crossed my mind, and it is lovely! I hope I'll be able to go and see her - tickets are very limited.

That is so funny, they have picked her because she isn’t meek and mild and probably has the confidence to bring it on also Mary had a garden too

My Dd when she was in nursery was in the choir , and was told to sing as loud as they could so the mums could here at the back of the room, she took it literally and all the children stopped singing to look st her. The song was “Hes got the whole world in his hands” she certainly did that day .Needless to say at the next performance she was told to miime !!!!

Love it 😊 she's quite right Mary did have a lamb 😂😂 my D'S was picked for Joseph one year and Mary had to lay her head on his knee but when she did he shoved her off so hard she landed on the floor and he wouldn't let her sit next to him so poor Mary sat beside the crib on the floor so the show could go on haha.
I wonder what will happen when the teacher gives her Baby Jesus 😲

Quite honestly we are surprised that DD1 didn't take up acting!
Aged 4 she cradled baby Jesus in her arms, rocked him, held him on her shoulder and patted him, all very lovingly and she very much looked the part
Her sister was 2 at the time, so it wasn't as though she had recently watched me caring for a baby!

I have seen many nativity productions over the years but no other where Mary showed any interest in the baby!

I've been to countless Nativities over the years with DCs and DGCs and many a tea-towel used used in the dressing up process, one year DS1 was a tree just outside the stable the play was only about 20minutes long but by the time it was finished the branches of the tree(his arms) had dropped to his waist and he looked very droopy indeed poor child.
My DGD was singing in the choir one year and her dolly was being used as Baby Jesus half way through a song she called out to the little girl playing Mary that she had better remember to give her the dolly back, everyone was laughing at her comments.

Made me think of my Dad's version of Mary had a little lamb:

                            Mary had a little lamb,
                            She also had a bear.
I often saw her little lamb,
                            But never saw her bare!

                            Sorry

Hope Daisy's GD doesn't mind too much having to hold a baby rather than a lamb!
Believe you can and you're halfway there.

I remember that poem WG very good, my great niece played Mary once when she was about 11 and not really into dolls by then so borrowed her younger sisters doll , she wasn’t happy and when the doll came back she would have nothing to do with it as it was now called baby Jesus and not Molly as she had named her
