    Busy,busy.

Sorry I haven't posted as often just hectic at the moment. Sending my love to all the poorly people, ether through the common cold or more serious ailments,I do pop on and read when I get a moment. So you are constantly in my thoughts. As most of you are aware we hope to move with DD later this year, this threw up a lot of "need to do" things that get put on the back burner. Trying to get all the odd jobs done for selling purposes, our second bedroom has been GD's sleepover room, office, craft room and was just a huge jumble that was going to be sorted "one day". That room has now almost been decorated, and has a new carpet being fitted. We donated a single bed to charity, which they collected this morning. On their way out with it they caught the new wallpaper leaving a tear in it.I had only done 1 wall as a feature,so I am not a happy bunny. Next is the bathroom which just needs a lick of fresh paint thank goodness, then the lounge again just fresh paintwork. Then finally we come to the kitchen, we didn't know what to do, we considered just having the door/drawer fronts changed. But had two quotes and it was ridiculously expensive, so we have opted to have a complete kitchen re fit which was only marginally more expensive than the revamp. It is not an ultra expensive or flash kitchen,I have settled on cream high gloss units, as I want to keep my tiles and worktops as they are only 4 years old and the floor covering 2 years old. Its for re sale purposes, but even if by some chance that doesn't happen I have a lovely new kitchen. DD,S.I.L the girls and us are going to Devon for a week in February for a scout around and a break from all the chaos. The cottage sleeps 6 and is dog friendly,so Shiloh is off on his 1st holiday. Come home and 11 days later I am off on holiday again, but without hubs or the dog. Think I will be more than ready for it after all this is over. .

if I was you I would not do the kitchen, get some quotes and designs drawn up to show viewers, then they will know how much it might cost to renew/revamp. The number of times I've seen new kitchens ripped out because it wasn't to the new purchasers taste.

LG - it certainly a busy time for you with so much going on.

I feel a bit like Avo - I can't imagine that your kitchen is so awful that is would put off prospective buyers, and even if you replaced the units, they might still do it again. Could you paint the doors to perk it up a bit? My OH recently helped someone to repaint cupboard doors and the very worm wooden edges which formed the drawer handles of a very tired-looking 80s kitchen. The tiles were awful so they did replace them, plus new flooring and the whole room looked so much better.

I think, after seeing photsc of your fabulous garden, prospective buyers will take one look at that and say they've got to have it!

I agree with the others, that purchasers like to put their own stamp on a property. As long as it is good enough for them to move into, as I am sure yours is. Good luck with the house hunting, very exciting for you all

I painted the kitchen doors myself with the special cupboard paint and it was very easy. We are not DIYers but it was enough to update the kitchen for selling purposes. Better still employ someone to do it for you!

I have painted all the unit doors a couple of years ago, not a job I would want to do again. There are approx 17 unit doors and it was a mammoth task. The kitchen we have chosen is on sale at Wickes and my son will fit it, the outlay is cheap for a decent looking kitchen.

That's good to know you have family to put it in for you LG, such a saving.
DD2 painted their pine kitchen cupboards a lovely matt grey and put clear crystal knobs on the doors. Trimmed it all with shocking pink accessories, looks really good. But DD1 bought a house were the last people had painted theirs and the was runs all over the place , a terrible job. It didn't put her off though as it was the layout and number of rooms she wanted.
It just depends who walks through the door.
Good luck with it all, and your hols too.

LG - that sounds like a lot of painting - no wonder you don't want to do it again. My OH has installed a couple of Wickes kitchens for various members of the family and thinks they're nice to work with. It's great your DS is so handy.

GJ - how lovely to see you posting. We do miss you. xx
