    Grandson

Just heard that my 17 year old Grandson has passed his driving test, so pleased for him.

Wow, well done, GS. It's a big milestone in a teenager's life, and I'm sure he'll love the freedom it brings - and perhaps his parents will be pleased not to be his chauffeur now. Wish him safe driving from me, please, Plant.

Well done that young man. We drove behind a learner today and the route was taxing to say the least. Buses, two schools, silly parking, the lot. This young man handled it all like an experienced driver. He will pass too I don't doubt. Did your GS's parents take him out to practice Plant? I ask because this was a topic of conversation recently. We did, we bought an old banger both times and they practised in that and that became their first car when they passed. We have friends who refused to take their children out to practise and they still passed. That was 20 years ago though.😬

Yes Grauntie, he had lessons but they bought a small car for him and took him out a lot to practise. He came around to see me, he said he was a bit nervous to be on his own and it was a busy time. He was so pleased, his mother text him to pick up some sour cream but he wasn't keen. I think his parents will be calling on him to taxi them.

Plant , congratulations to your GS. He will be loving his new found freedom. Driving at the age of 17 makes them seem so grown up doesn't it. ?

GM - I took both my sons out for lots of practice when they were learning. OH took both of them once and each time the son came back saying 'never again'!!!

The very first time I took DS2 out, on his 17th birthday, he was driving along a narrow busy road, going uphill on a bend, when we got a puncture! He handled it really well and did exactly what I told him. Talk about a baptism of fire!

DS1 learned to drive in my ancient SAAB 93, with column change and freewheel! We gave it to him after he passed his test - about 1990 - and he's still got it! the deal with DS2 is that we would buy him a car when he was 17 provided he didn't start riding a motorbike when he was 16. He eventually got a bike and passed his bike test when he was an uni - but at least he had a few years road experience by them.
