GD1's Mum and dad were invited in to school for assembly this morning to see GD1 being awarded a special certificate for excellent Literacy, working hard and being kind to other children. Needless to say they were quite proud of her. There were just one or 2 children from each class and in GD's class a little boy also got an award for working very hard. English is his second Language, so everything is that bit harder for him. One the way back to their classrooms, DIL saw GD go up to this little boy and say 'well done' to him. There's a photo in my Album.

Thank you Grannies. You can't help being thrilled when you see good things happening in their lives!
Gemini - I think you're right, they do sound very similar. She came home from school tonight and finished a story she had started at the week-end, and clearly enoyed doing it! It was a task for 'home learning'. I'm not sure what this is if it's not homework by another name, which at her age, I think is unnecessary. So it's really lovely that she enjoys school so much she's happy to do the required work. But I feel very sorry for the children who just want to switch off and do their own thing after school - my GS1 being one of them. Homework is always a battle."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "
