A Tale of a Pony Tail

GD1 has a best friend at school, who I will call Natalie. Natalie is a little older than GD1 (nearer 6 than 5) and in the middle of a large family, so I guess she often feels the need to make her presence felt. GD and Natalie's relationship isn't always plain sailing, and N will sometimes boss GD around a bit too much.

At the beginning of this week the big news when GD came home was that Natalie had had her long, curly, thick dark brown hair cut short, but didn't seem very pleased with the results. GD's Mum and I exchanged glances, Mum giving her head a slight scratch - yes, it looked like Natalie's mum had had enough of visitations from nits/lice and decided Natalie's wild mane needed taming.

Yesterday afternoon GD's Mum saw Natalie, and her mum, and it transpires tht Natalie had taken the scissors to her own hair, hacking great chunks off the front and one side. It had been tidied up professionally to an extent, but was still pretty awful. Apparently, it's not the first time Natalie has done this to her hair, and she was upset last time, too.

GD and her Mum were discussing it later, and GD with all the wisdom of her 5 years said, very seriously, "Mum, I don't think she thought it through properly."

If I were GD I would keep Natalie in her line of vision in case she thinks it would be a good idea for GD to join her in the cropped look.

Daisy, I bet you had to smile hearing your GD say that
I agree that she should be wary of Natalie with scissors!!

Gem - GD would be absolutely distraught if anything happened to her hair - she loves it being long!

I understand Daisy. For many many years it would have been the worst thing that could have happened to me!!!

Very wise granddaughter there Daisy. When our Rosie was little she cut her fringe when she was at other Nan's house.

Nanto - I can remember cutting the front of my hair because it was getting in my eyes - I was about 5. My mother was really cross with me - and I couldn't see why, after all, I'd solved the problem of my hair annoying me!!!

I was much naughtier than Natalie, Rosie or Daisy!

When I was a little girl I once sat and cut very neat cuts , using my mothers sewing scissors, about 2 inches long, down the tops of my socks. Each cut was an inch or so apart. When my mother noticed and asked me what on earth I was doing, I apparently said it was because I had nothing else to do

I thought the same thing Daisy NITS Natalie seems a bit of a handful wonder if she did it to get attention as being in the middle of a large family she would have to do something drastic to be heard lol
