On the end of our barn we erected a barn owl box and last year, in July, a couple took up residence. They laid 13 eggs but sadly none hatched - we don't know why. We noticed last night that they were back so hopefully we will get better luck this year. We have a webcam inside the box so we can watch them - trouble is its addictive!

Welcome back to Fred and Ethel. Perhaps they were youngsters themselves last year - July sounds quite late to start laying. Fingers crossed for this year. How great having a webcam.

Haven't seen Fred yet but he must be around because he has been bringing Ethel food. There are pellet in the nest box. I'm not sure but I think we may have an egg .... when she got up and moved around I could see something but it wasn't very clear. I will take some more photos when there is something definite to see - if she obliges by moving for me. Last year's egg total was very unusual maybe that is why none hatched. Glad you are interested grannies...these owlets will have so many grandmothers! hee hee
