    School reports

My granddaughter and older grandson have had their school reports.
GD is 8, in year 3, and has always had excellent reports, and this was no exception.
For GS1, 5, this was his first school report. I am proud to say it was excellent too, in every way.
I am proud that as well as them both doing so well academically, both reports mentioned their kindness and consideration to others, both adults and other children.

GD also got a Distinction in Primary Ballet Gold Award on Saturday.

Now, all we need now is to have GS be as compliant at home as he is at school

Well done little ones. Your GD seems to excell at most things she does....clever girl. They give us reasons to be so proud.

Gem - isn't it wonderful to hear such wonderful reports for our beloved GCs. Our GD1 is similar to yours - always gets fabulous reports, but like you I'm most proud of the comments about GD's kindness and help she gives to other children.

Well done to your GD on her Distinction in her Ballet Gold Award. It's also lovely that GS1 is following in her footsteps (at school, at least). You must be very proud of both of them. xx

I'm sure all our GC will be making their families proud with their reports when they get them!

My DiL who is a HT spent two days last week rewriting an NQT’s reports. He had written comments like:

Her mind wonders around the class and she never listens to instructions.

X never stops talking and distracting her neighbours, her voice is far too loud.

It’s about time Z stopped making rude remarks about his classmates.

                  And so on.

She spent some time with him explaining that:

Q needs to work hard on keeping focused in lessons

Z’s target this year is to work hard on building relationships with his classmates, is the way forward.

As she said, it may be the truth but it’s best not to be brutal

I'm wondering what report my GS1 will bring home. He's having trouble keeping up with the others in his class as the staff are waiting to do tests to see if he's Dyslexic (he's 7 yrs old). They want to give him time to settle in his new class in Sept & see if he has an attention disorder too.

The teacher has asked DD to work on computer skills over the summer hols. Her computer 'died' & now she has to get one from a catalogue, therefore setting herself up for debt. I said to ask if school could lend her one but she's too proud.

Back to reports...he's such a kind & sensitive soul that I hope this will be commented on.

(Sorry to take up so much of your topic Gem)x

Sum1 - well done to your DIL for rewriting those reports. Negative comments like that can do so much damage, and I bet most of us can remember getting reports like "Daisy could to better if she tried' It may have been true, but is could also have been that I was trying hard but just not 'getting' it. Positive encouragement goes a long way to helping children build their confidence to try and improve.

Nana - If possible try and persuade your DD to ask to borrow a computer. It will have the right software your GS1 will be using, and if he is diagnosed with Dyslexia he may well be offered a computer to use in class anyway. I hope the school don't delay too long in letting him 'settle in' before they assess him. The sooner the better. Yes, his teacher really should mention his lovely personality.

Remembering my early school reports I always had comments like "such a shame that she's not as attentive as her brother was". "If only she had the same enthusiasm for numbers as her sister".

Thanks Daisy. I was planning on contacting my daughter later today to see how he got on /computer etc. They're giving him 3wks to settle, by the way before any testing.
