We only had the grandchildren for one day and the weather was thankfully good. We took them to Canterbury and now, being 11 and 9, they seemed quite happy with shopping. Both children have a GoHenry card (a debit card where their pocket money is debited to by Dad) and we found lots of shops they loved. Smiggles was very popular and we found a really large Tiger shop too. There was a shop called MenKind full of boys toys (not only small boys but big boys stuff too) which GS1 loved. We also found a new cafe/restaurant which is exclusively Gluten Free (imagine that) where we had a great lunch. We went into the Old Fashioned Sweet Shop and I bought them sweets of their choosing and I treated them to a couple of small other inexpensive things and they were thrilled. I was surprised to find that all the shops took the GoHenry cards which is a great idea, means the kids don't carry cash and gifts of money for birthdays etc can be paid directly to the card. GD1 loves using it. It was funny watching her shield the view of her pin number with her tiny hand when she paid. Makes here feel really grown up.

Neither had I until DS2 organised it. It is such a clever idea and teaches them about paying with card without any of the security problems of a credit card. They can, of course, only spend the money that parents, grandparents and anyone else gifting money has credited to the card.

BL - what a lovely day you all had. I've never heard of GoHenry cards, either, but I'm going to mention them to DS1 - I'm sure both GSs would love them, and it hopefully teaches them that plastic represents 'real money' with real spending limits.

I think GD is a little young at just 7, but I'm sure it is something her parents will be interested in when she's older.
BL, when you have time would you like to start a specific thread about GoHenry cards in the Finance section?“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown
