    Day out with Thomas!

We are going on one of these days later this month
    OH and I, DDs 2 and 3, and GSs 2 and 3.
GS3 is mad on all things train and especially the Thomas ones. We have many books, borrow more from the library and have DVDs, and of course the trains themselves.
We are all looking forward to it, I will report back.

Gem, this sounds like the perfect day out for Thomas the Tank Engine fans.

The Thomas stories seem to have been favourites with several generations of children, and I still couldn't read one of the books without "hearing" Ringo Star's narration. It will be a fabulous day out for all of you, I'm sure.

Here is little E, my GS3, giving Thomas water to help him on his way. He loved every minute WhatsApp Image 2026-05-30 at 17.06.45.jpg

Looks wonderful. I’ve taken all four grandsons to the London Transport museum which is real winner. There’s something about trains and buses that fascinates young children.

When I was six and beyond I desperately wanted a train set. Never got one and I remember my grandma giving me a probably quite expensive doll. I hated it. Still hate dolls, I find them scary - quite malevolent - in fact. I made sure DD had a train set and it was the most played with toy ever - for both of them. And me!

Sum1 I loved dolls (still do!) but I too wanted a train set and didn't get one. Maybe they thought I wasn't serious, but I was!

I love model railways and we have been to a few exhibitions.

My late sister hated dolls , although she kept one that she was given as a child minus eye lashes and hair , she cut it all off,
I never knew why she kept it ,
I have it in my loft my family think it's creepy 😁

My DD had a garage cars and a wooden road and bridge, she played with none stop ,
                        She never liked dolls either.

Sum1, the London Transport Museum was a very popular choice of outing for children (mostly boys) when we lived in Surrey. I seem to remember DS2 being able to "drive" a London bus on one outing - or perhaps it was a different thing. The Museum was always more popular with our sons and their friends than, say a strip round a first division football ground!

I agree, dolls can be scary, and I would have preferred a Meccano set!
