    Teacher training day

I know they’ve just gone back to school after missing months and months and last Monday our lot had teacher training day! Can you believe it! We took the boys to Anglesey Abbey, it was very busy with ‘silver tops’. We had lunch in the cafe and walked the grounds searching for conkers to fill their hallowe’en buckets. Had a lovely autumn day. Then on returning here they helped Papa weed the raised vegetable beds. Two very tired little boys were collected but their mummy...

It is the same here Avo, they had a training day the day they should have gone back to school after the holidays! That sounded a good day out, searching for conkers!

Are they doing Halloween Avo ?

Lots around here are doing Pumpkin spotting , people are putting decorations in their windows painting pumpkins on windows etc ,
Parents are bringing children around looking for pumpkins and when they spot one their parents put a sweet in their bags , so no knocking on doors .

Such a shame as i love answering the door to the little people all dressed up .

Yes our schools have had TT days ridiculous when they have had all these months off , but maybe its a refresher for Covid rules then i can see the point of that .

Oma, I am going to put a pumpkin lantern and a big bowl of wrapped sweets out on Halloween. I will miss them knocking on the door, but the treats will be there for any families who do come round.

My DDs say I should out some hand sanitiser out too.

Yes, one of my GDs had a teacher training day on the Friday and the children started on the following Monday. It was to make sure all the staff were up to speed with the Covid arrangements which were changing day by day!

It seems ridiculous when the schools have been closed for so long, but I'm sure it was needed given the complicated do's and don'ts of Bubbles, groups, one-way corridors, sectioned off playgrounds, lunch arrangements and probably 100 other things I haven't even thought of.

Avo - I was thinking about you today and wondering how your two DILs are coping with work restrictions etc.

Lovely to have a day with the grandchildren.

But I think no one really has any idea of the pressures and strain that heads are under atm. There have been 164 changes of instructions which they have to comply with, endless coping with worried parents and an expectation that they are also responsible for the learning of those children not at school for whatever reason. I’m seriously worried about my DiL. There is no extra money , indeed there have been budget cuts, and she has to teach two afternoons a week because there is no money. This with nearly 700 children in the school. So many heads have PTSD and I suspect many will just quit because the job is impossible. She has also been coping with endless Child Protection matters which have been totally neglected by SS (Oma will understand) and it’s only the police who will help - if it’s possible to find and Officer.
