Some of you may remember the alpaca walk OH bought me for my birthday a couple of years ago?
I bought GD one for her 10th birthday, last October. We had decided to walk in early summer, after our longed for family holiday to Florida. We all know how that ended up.
The walks stopped for lockdown but when they reopened, I booked us in.
GD loved it and was a natural at leading our alpaca (Unlike Grandma who can't even take a dog for a walk, they take me!) GD said it was like leading a horse, which she has done. We had lead each, either side of Red our alpaca. His fleece was so soft and jet black.
We learned that he was a stud animal and the most expensive in the pack, worth £8,500! I told GD we'd better not lose him!
You learn a little about alpacas in general and your alpaca in particular. There were 10 of us walking alpacas. Then a gentle stroll for just over a hour, with several snack stops (the alpacas not humans!) I say gentle stroll but some of them, ours included, want to get ahead. We had to stop him every so often so he didn't run into one ahead of him. For a while we walked behind Pasha, who was my alpaca last time. Nice to see him again
Once back at the farm, we were given scoops of hay for our alpaca. Red was more interested in the lush grass and clover. We then said goodbye to our alpacas and watched them go into the fields. We could then see them running and playing, the walk hadn't tired then out too much!
We then went into the field to meet the females (only males do the walks) More scoops of hay for them. They were even prettier than the males, with rounder eyes. All cupboard love with them. Once our scoops were empty they ignored us and wandered off!
We had a lovely time, and the day ends with an ice lolly. I bought GD a blue Peruvian woven bracelet with little beads as a memento. We passed over the fluffy alpaca wool bag at £180!!
When we went to the cat cafe GD wanted to work there. Now she wants it work at the alpaca farm
Home for home-made scones, and a cookery programme GD and I watch together when we get the chance (ie when 4 year old GS not there!)
Then her mum picked her up, en route it pick up GS from his Gran, and home for GD's karate class.
A lovely day.
Photos are on 3 phones, mine GDs and OH's. I will put some on my media (and FB) once I have seen them all.
