Outings with grandchildren over the school holidays

Do you have any outings planned with grandchildren this summer? Either just with them, or with their parents too?

Yesterday all GS1 wanted to do was hang out here and go in the pool. It was so hot I was happy to do so.
As I have him one day a week on all but one of the 6 weeks break we will go on some trips though'

We have our annual August trip to Filey with our friends and their GC. Sadly GS1 will be away on holiday. I did tell DD1 what date it was, then they ended up booking their week holiday then. A bit sad, as he loved it last year. GS2 is too young yet (5 is the unofficial age for this day out with grandparents) , so just GD.
I am getting together with the same friends, their GS and my GS1 the following week though, we haven't planned where we will go yet.
Next Monday OH, GS1 and I are having a day out, destination undecided. It may be Newby Hall, William's Den, or somewhere else!

Nothing else specific planned yet, we will go with the flow

I am sure he will love Newby Hall. The gardens there were spectacular when we were there Gemini.

He loves those fountains which randomly shoot up water from the floor Plant! Swimshorts and towel needed

I havnt got that far yet Gem the kids are still at school officially x although the twins are on hols this week, I am investing in a larger paddling pool as having all 3 some weeks the other one is a bit small.
I have various children 2/3 days a week till middle of August when we go to Spain . sometimes all 3, sometimes twins and sometimes just eldest , but this year is a better year for trips as eldest now sits in a normal car seat as before we couldn’t get 3 car seats in the car, so had to stay fairly local unless there were just two .
Watch this space for further details 😬

Qwerty, we bought bigger paddling pool which all 3 can fit into last summer. A good move!
We haven't done so yet but OH and I could easily both lie out in it

          * I have started a new thread about paddling pools!

Qwerty talking about getting bigger paddling pool made me me think a new thread is in order! We had a small circular inflatable one for GD, similar to the one I had for her mum and aunties. It was fine for a while. As the GC grew bigger, in size and number something else was needed. We didn't want it on our lawn all summer, so

This is the first time in many years when we have nothing planned as my youngest DGS is 16 next week and doesn't really need to be going out and about with us,he is going to do some part-time work experience with his brother he will be earning some £s to put towards his 6th form trip to Iceland in March its quite expensive I am told so he is helping his mum with the spends he will need to take.
We will meet up with GGCs and visit the local little play centres who seem to have different theamed days all are within walking distance or going over on the Ferry to Liverpool for the day.

Glamm - I have happy memories to taking two of my nieces over to Liverpool when they were primary school age and we lived in Bromborough! They used to love it.

Our GSs are now too old to need grandparents to care for them during the holidays, but we will be having our GDs two days a week, along with their dog. But if we are planning an outing we won't have the dog as well. There will be two weeks when we will be confined to home because of OH having eye treatment, but outings will be planned round the weather! No forward planning in the Daisy household!

I had a day out with both grandsons yesterday.
It was my day to look after GS2 (His sister was away with friends for a few days)

DD1 told me about a 3 Little Pigs based activity morning she planned to take GS1 to. For Under 8's. It sounded just GS2's thing so we decided to go too. It was a free event but you had to book ahead.
I picked GS2 up from his house just after 9 and drove down the road to DD1. The 4 of us went in DD1's car.
We parked ,checked in and walked along to the wooden activity building. We made pigs ears headdresses, then walked into the woods to the storytelling area and heard the 3 Little Pigs Story, then back to the building. There we made houses of straw, sticks or brick on the tables and blew them down with the help of the big bad wolf (hairdryer with wolfs head!)
We made stick houses so got to gather sticks in the wood.

It was bit young for GS1, but he did enjoy it. GS2 loved it and was so good. I am so proud of him, at only 3. Listening well and joining in and never running off.

We then went to a big indoor play area both children are used to, where we all had lunch and the boys had a good run around.
The plan was then to all go back to my house. The boys to play in the pool. I took them both in my car as GD needed to go to a post office and post a parcel on the way.
Te best laid plans as they say!!
First GS1, then GS2 fell asleep in the car and slept for quite a while after we got back! Both woke a bit grumpy but GS2 got out of it quicker than his older cousin!
It had rained on and off on the way home was dull, so in the end no one went into the pool, but GS2 had fun throwing toys in

It sounds as if you had a lovely time Gem. No wonder the boys fell asleep. It’s wonderful that these activities are put on for free.

Gem - what a lovely day for you, DD1 and the two cousins, even though it didn't work out as planned the boys had a lovely time and I'm sure they both slept well last night despite their nap in the car.

We are having all four gs on Thursday so have to stay home as we can’t get 4 car seats in the car! Rain is forecast and I’ve told both mummies to pack rain gear as I can’t be holed up in doors with 4 of them all day 😱😂!
Both families are spending time with us in Portugal and we’re taking the elder two to ZooMarine on their own for the day (so the parents inform me ! )

I love picnic time of year! Cheaper and more fun than cafes (apart from the damned wasps!)

Had a WhatsApp message from DIL who was working today (other Nanna looking after children) could we have them tomorrow as they have asked her to work as they’re short staffed. Course I said yes, well you do don’t you, so got two tomorrow and the other two on Thursday!
