    What would you have done?

Yesterday when my washing machine was delivered and installed I suddenly thought should I give the men a tip.? I know this will bring up the old debate about good service versus what’s expected but I wonder what you would have done re the delivery men? Once the thought had popped into my head I knew I would feel a bit guilty if I didn’t so I gave them each something. They were very grateful so I didn’t know if it was usual for them or not to receive a tip. They were here for about three quarters of an hour and did have refreshments and use of the loo.

I always give the Tesco delivery driver a tip at Christmas but I have never tipped delivery men of large household items like washing machines and fridges as I always make them tea/coffee, biscuits and use of the ‘ littlest room in the house ‘ .
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

I did last year make sandwiches for two foreign delivery drivers who had been driving all night from Southampton to do delivery ,
I made them as requested (Tea to stand a spoon up in ) and Bacon sandwiches , they were very grateful ,

I don't tip delivery men, but tea/coffee and biscuits are always offered.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I don't tip delivery people, only the postman at Christmas.

I’ve never thought to tip delivery drivers but if the thought came to me I would probably feel obliged to give something. Taxi drivers in this area don’t seem to expect tips but the ones in London and Kent definitely did.

I wouldn't tip for any sort of delivery unless the delivery mean had done something extra, like connecting the appliance up if that was not part of the 'deal' agreed with the supplier. But we always offer tea/coffee and biscuits.

Pearl, I only offer tea and coffee and biscuits if the men will be around for some time. We had carpet fitted downstairs last week, and did then, as they were here over 2 hours. If delivering an appliance and leaving, no I wouldn't either

                      Seems I’m a soft touch.
                      I wouldn’t tip for a straightforward delivery.

Clover your just a lovely kind person... I make tea and coffee with biscuits even chocolate ones to workmen doing jobs in the house, I had a plaster in yesterday doing our kitchen ceiling long story next door had a leak which the landlord turned the water off and the tenant put it back on, our kitchen was flooded, so new ceiling was needed here, I offered tea and told plasterer just to stick his head out the kitchen if he wanted another, he wasn't shy kettle was never off and kept the biscuit jar in the kitchen with him...

Pearl, I learned my lesson when workmen (only 2 of them) once emptied the biscuit tin! I now put 2 or 3 each on a plate!
