Does anyone know any good games/toys for a nearly 6yr old please? Any suggestions gratefully received.

I'm trying to think back to what my GD, now 7, liked then. She's very much into Scrabble now!

The Sands Alive has been really useful for me because I can't stand the smell of Playdoh (it literally makes me feel queasy) but GD1 loves to do modelling, so this has been great.

Daisy I'm with you with the Playdoh malarkey. It makes me feel nauseous, not only the smell but the texture of it. I can't touch it. I was like that with the old fashioned type of plasticine we had when I was a child. I used to give mine to my sister to play with. It's also the same with blue tac , can't touch that either.

Nana my 6 year old GS loves Darts . These are special Darts that don't have a pointed end , DD got them from Toys RUs I think. He also likes skittles. He has a plastic set that we keep here for him. As we have a long hall he sets them up at the one end and hay presto, he has his own home made skittle alley !

I found my boys loved old fashioned games too GS1 was really into snakes and ladders at that age , also loved dominoes just stacking them in lines and watching them topple over , GS2 went through a stage of those little polystyrene aeroplanes , I got a lot from Hawkers Bazaar I think that's how you spell it , they do a lot of the old fashioned toys , they had great times playing tiddly winks they thought they were hilarious, simple toys are sometimes just what they want ,

I know what you mean Oma. I played Beetle with him at Christmas & he loved it. He cheated tho' to win but that's his prerogative. Can you remember the Beetle drives back in the day? Brought back memories. I searched on ebay last night & got a 'bundle' of Lego. I liked that particular batch over all the other used ones as it said 'cleaned & sanitised'. For a minute there I thought I might have to send it down to Oma to bleach.

We have a huge tub of Lego collected over the years some belong to B,s brother and he's 50 on the 23rd😲 some our our DD and DS and what the boys have had so it's a VERY large tub , you can never go wrong with Lego it fires their imagination weird and wonderful things can be built 😀

My lot love the old fashioned games too, T's is Monopoly, they make there own rules up as they go along, T always wins but he is the banker....

The girls just play with pens, paper, that is all they do, got a couple of craft sets for Christmas will do that...

We have a box of lego too collected over the years, some of mine, and my lot, there not much into that now, think its all the computer/computer games.....

My youngest DGS when he was about 7/8 just loved the Compendium of games I bought for him one birthday he had loads of fun with the different games for many a year,he never ever got bored and the box even came out this last Christmas when we had party games it must be about the best £10 I have ever spent on him.

Nana - yes it is. Poor doggy - I'm glad she was ok in the end, but it must have been excruciating for her. I suppose there are lots of things around the house that a determined dog could hurt himself with. Our DS2's dog was very ill after a walk on the beach. They stopped to talk to friends and their small children were throwing Midge's tennis ball for him - in and out of the water. He had a fantastic time, but he must have ingested a lot of sand, and some salt water, and was in agony that night. It too several trips to the vet and lots of medication before he recovered. DS and DIL felt very guilty that they hadn't realised what was happening, but he went on the beach most days with no problem. A hard lesson learnt.

We're lucky with Eva - she doesn't touch anything that's not given to her, but our Yorkies would chew things - I only found the strap of a chewed up sandal when it arrived in the garden along with doggydo (thank you, Rusty) and Clyde would empty waste paper baskets, looking for anything remotely edible. You learn to look at the world through your dog's eyes - and nose!
