    How to dry trainers!

My 6 year old granddaughter is adorable in every way.
Her one flaws is that her feet smell! !
Even as a toddler they did, I often had to clean her feet with baby wipes while doing a nappy change. Today she took her trainers off and they smelled bad. DD said she was going to buy her some trainer socks to help the problem. I put them outside, then later sprinkled sweet smelling baby powder into them. When I tipped it out, the shoes smelled just as bad. I looked in them, and the care label said they could be machine washed at 30°. I decided to wash them, and in they went.

Looking online now, I notice several people saying that they take ages to dry!! I should have read this before acting!
They are Clarks trainers, fabric ones. It says not to tumble dry. I would like them to be dry when she goes home tomorrow, which seems unlikely. I really hope they are dry for her to take them to France on Friday

    Any advice???

Pack them with kitchen paper to soak as much as you can , then put in a warm place like boiler cupboard if you have one, I must say I have always put the boys trainers in a pillow case and put them in the tumble on a low heat setting , it does take some time but it's always worked , Baking soda is good for soaking up smells in trainers , I put it in my shoes over night if it's been a hot day and I have had shoes and not sandals on ,
Just another thought you could try a hair dryer

Gem - many years ago a very good washing machine mechanic told me that just because an article says 'can be machine washed' it doesn't mean your washing machine will benefit! Probably your GD's trainers are quite small, but if you imagine a great hulking pair of size 11s whizzing round you can see he may have had a point!

      I'd try the hairdryer too.

About 36 years ago my little sister got married. A full blown white wedding with horse and cart (as my husband calls it) and the full works. I stayed with my other sister and her husband. He had bought some sand coloured soft leather shoes which were a bit tight so one of us, I cannot remember if it was me or my sister, suggested putting damp newspaper in them to loosen them. Of course with them being a light colour the camp stains showed in the morning and we knew he would have a fit. We managed to send him on an errands. In those days none of us drove so it was a long errand using a bus. We dampened the whole of the shores to get rid of the stains and, needing to dry them quickly, we put them in the oven. The result was that the leather upper came away from the rubber soles. We knew we didn't have much time and one of us rushed to the local shop. Superglue was very new then and quite expensive but needs must. We glued the soles to the uppers and put them under the bookcase to weld together just getting them out as sisters husband walked through the door. Took about 45 minutes before we could let him anywhere near them lest he saw signs of what we had done. He got the shoes on just about three minutes before we got in the taxi to go to the wedding. He never knew a thing and after the wedding he gave the shoes away because he had decided he didn't like them as they were darker than he remembered them when he bought them........

My husband has distinctly smelly feet and I put bicarbonate of soda in them overnight and that usually gets rid of any nasty whiffs.......

            LOL Zizi!

I should have tried the bicarb tip. Next time!
I have taken the inner soles out, which will spee u p the drying process. I packed them with kitchen roll for a couple of hours and am leaving them to air overnight.
In the morning I will try the hairdryer. If it doesn't work I will have to ask DD to bring some other shoes!

            Thanks everyone.

I always put trainers in the washing machine , have done for years. I find they dry pretty quickly, especially in this hot weather and I usually put them outside in the sunshine. Obviously, not a good job to do in the winter.

They are dry! The outsides smell lovely the insides still not fresh! I have sprinkled them liberally inside with bicarb. We are dropping GD at the other grans later, so I will empty it out before we go.
