    One for the bleach babes.

My fire surround and other parts are imitation brass, need to know the best way to get the tarnish off and make it shiny again.

To be honest Libra it's so long ago since I cleaned any kind of brass but I'm sure I once used baby oil to get dirt off gently and then warm soapy water to wash oil off , but as I say so long ago I may be wrong

What is it made of ? If it is brass looking is it plastic?

if it's imitation brass as you say, I think I would just use a solution of water and washing up liquid, dry it then buff it up. If possible, I would try it first, where it can't be seen.

Perhaps you could try an inconspicuous area with Brasso.

LG - why do you want it shiny again? It will only tarnish again and then you will have a job for life.

Ladies I avoided brasso, I just used white vinegar, lemon juice and bicarb as a scourer. Came up okay, not gleaming but much better.

Hmmm, I have no idea. Maybe Googling will provide the answer?

White vinegar is often recommended for cleaning.

Did read somewhere that brown sauce is good for cleaning brass. Do wonder who decides to try something like this in the first place.
