    Do you hover?

If you have to get a workman(or woman) in to do a smallish job do you leave him/ her to it or do you hover round them? I'm never sure which is better. Today I had to get a plumber in to repair the toilet and co-incidentally my Tesco delivery came at the same time so I had no choice but to leave the plumber to it. I don't want the work person to think I don't trust them not to run off with the family jewels ((I wish) and I know some people don't like to be watched while they work.On the other hand I like to keep an eye on progress. What do you do?

A bit of both, leave them to it mainly but just be on hand in case there,s a problem...and to make them a cuppa

Jim used to hover , got on my nerves , especially when it was something he could have done by himself , everything took twice as long with all the chat . Now I let them get on with it and report to his Lordship when they are finished and have a chat and a cuppa

My OH tends to hover unless I can distract him, but I leave workmen to get on with the job, just keeping them topped up regularly with their choice of tea or coffee. But I do check carefully before paying the final bill!

I think a lot of workmen don't like being watched - but they do like you to admire their handiwork afterwards.

I don't hover probably because I wouldn't like someone to do it to me! I do make regular tea/coffee just to keep the wheels turning and the job moving forward. I have a friend and an ex neighbour who both go really over the top with suspicions when they have workers in the house. Must be very awkward all round as their lack of trust is very obvious.

I'm very lucky I'm not suspicious that's because I have nothing worth stealing 😁

Neither of us hover over workmen. We will chat with them while having a cuppa for a few minutes, this gives hubby a chance to see how things are going.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I hate having workmen in and just want them to be done and gone, so no I don't hover!
I am friendly and offer them tea or coffee and give them a plate of biscuits, which always goes down well. I just say shout if you need me and leave them to it.
OH on the other hand would hover. Not because she is suspicious, because she would be interested to see how they did whatever it was!

That's no bad thing Gem it could save you money if she knew how to do that job 😊

Well quite Oma She does a lot, and hates it when she has to get professionals in for something she doesn't have the expertise to do!

I was hovered over when I worked for the local newspaper. They needed an article retyped urgently as the deadline was only minutes away. The editor asked who was the best person to do it and, much to my surprise, it was me! I ended up with the big boss, the editor and two others staring over my shoulder as I typed. I had no idea what the article was about as I just copy typed. After a couple of minutes I just stopped and it was the big boss who took the hint and moved everyone away!

OH has the habit of telling the Plummer, electrician etc, the tools he will need and the best way to do it. OH isn't exactly Mr DIY .
I tend to make as many cups of tea they want. This means I can keep an eye on what's going on and I think I may get a better standard of work if I spoil them !

Whan we lived in London we had a regular builder who did work for us business wise and at home. He called in to the office asking for my OH. I told him he was at home putting a washer on the tap. He immediately said tell him to stop what he is doing and he went round to sort it out - he decided it was easier to sort the washer out than have to undo any damage OH may have caused - and he was quite right!! OH hates doing any kind of DIY and would far rather pay someone else to do the job.

Just an update on our plumbing problem.

Job was done, all fine, toilet flushed O.K One hour later- toilet exactly the same as before I called the plumber. Rang straight away and was lucky to get an answer as it was nearly 5 o'clock. Had to have a second visit next day and as he came in he had something in his hand that he used to refix problem so I had a feeling he knew what he had originally omitted to do!
