    What would you do?

One of our neighbours who lives 4 doors away has just lost her husband. We've known each other since our children were small but are more casual acquaintances than actual friends.Obviously I can't send a "normal" Christmas card with a "best wishes for a lovely Christmas" type of message as hers will be anything but lovely. I really need to find a card saying something like "thinking of you at Christmas" but failing that would a blank birthday type card with some nice flowers on be appropriate with me writing a similar message?

That sounds the best option Clover I got a plain white card with a silver snow flake on it was blank inside for my neighbour who's husband died in February and just put a similar message in , didn't want to not send a card but a normal Christmas card didn't seem right
Im not fat just 6ft too small

I agree Clover, a blank card and you can write whatever you think appropriate. A sad Christmas for her so I'm sure she would appreciate a little message. X

I do think they do a "thinking of you at this time" card in the likes of Card Warehouse but failing that what the other ladies have said is the same as I'm thinking, what a thoughtful neighbour you are. xx

Clover, how sad There is never ever a good time to lost anyone, but this time of year seems so much worse.

I agree with Oma and Enfys, either blank card with a peaceful scene or flower on, or a Christmas card simply saying Thinking of you at Christmas time. As you say not always easy to find. If you do Moonpig or Funky Pigeon you can choose your own wording of course.

Clover - that's very thoughtful of you. There are cards which have messages like 'thinking of you this Christmas' with appropriate pictures on them. There may even be a card suitable for Christmas in the Condolences section of the card shop. Failing that I'd choose a blank card with a suitable picture which you could write a short message in.

I know what you mean - both my parents died just a few weeks before Christmas and getting cards with jolly Santas on wishing me a happy Christmas etc didn't help! So I always try to choose the right card for the first anniversaries like birthdays etc.

I hope your neighbour has family to help her through the next few weeks.

I think it would be lovely to get a "thinking of you " type card in the circumstance

We have had quite a lot of this sort of situation recently. I have a stock of nice quality blank cards to send for this sort of things and also if there is a situation where I have forgotten a birthday (which is quite rare for me to be honest) but good quality blank cards are good to keep for this sort of reason and also if you want to send a thank you or supporting message to someone without loads of words all over.

I would say find a card with a nice picture and put a personal note in. Kind of you to think of the situation the lady is in.

I understand you wanting to send a card, and one that says thinking of you or blank so you could write your message would be appropriate.

Facing a similar situation I asked in the card shop and they actually had some she had to fetch out of a drawer so might be worth checking. Seem to remember a dove of peace and something like "thinking of you this Christmas" inside. It is a tricky situation and not easy to find the right wording.

I only ever buy Christmas cards with verses which wouldn't offend folk. A Merry Christmas would be very hurtful for some people.
