Oh er I had no idea. Just thank goodness no one was hurt and the GK's were not around Never ever known an oven to explode, but now will be a lot more careful after reading this. .

Good heavens!! Why on earth do they make glass oven doors then??
We have one, but it came with the house, built in to the kitchen. I see no use for a glass door as I always open the oven to look in (probably because I'm not an avid cleaner, so cant really see through it!! ) When we need a new oven I will definitely opt for a non-glass door!!

I had an oven door that was broken by the engineer who came to fix the grill , he dropped something and the door glass just disintegrated , It was the inner panel and had a metal insert outside , sort of mesh , so it stayed in the door , it took a month to get a new glass panel . I have looked at our present oven and it has no metal mesh and I am now wondering if being a non BB is saving it

You could try the trading standards officer at your local council.

These manufactures/ stores come up with a load of rubbish don't they ? You cleaned it too much ? As apposed to you didn't clean it enough !
They always have a carefully scripted list of ' get out of it, its not our fault its the customer/owner fault' excuses
I would have thought that the issue of the out of date guarantee is neither here nor there, that glass oven door was not sold as fit for purpose . Oven doors are not supposed to explode no matter how old they are or how much they have /have not been cleaned.
I think you may have to contact BBCs Watchdog programme and post on their facebook / twitter page.
And you might want to do what I have heard is a good tip. Go to the shop where you brought it from ensuring its their busiest time of day and complain as loudly as you can about the poor service /product .
                  Shops hate a scene !
Hope it all gets sorted as quickly as possible.

I was going to suggest watchdog as it sounds so dangerous and really lucky no one got hurt. However old it is it shouldn't explode!

We had this happen about eighteen years ago. The cooker was about two and half years old, I loved it because it had a halogen hob (not that I made much use of it mind, I just liked turning it on a off). I had the same response as in it is out of warranty, we don't stock this anymore etc. I gave up in the end and bought a new cooker. I agree though the bits are tiny and are a bit like that bruddy sparkly confetti people put in Christmas cards, you open the damned things and the stuff goes everywhere and you are still finding it months later.

Well update is, I Tweeted Wickes and Electrolux, funny 15 minutes later I got a call from Wickes, they were not interested before, took details said he would speak to his manager and ring me back, he stuck to his word and 5 mins later he rang back, saying although its the Manufactor who I have to take it up with, if it helps, they gave me £80 Wickes vouchers, so they are in the post, I did say I wasn't happy, the guarantee has nothing to do with it, it could have been a lot worse, he tried to make excuses up why it had happened, but I just cut him short and said I didn't want to hear it, if the doors are going to explode for any reason, it shouldn't shatter all over the kitchen, he give up in the end, so now waiting for Electrolux, again they were not interested until I Tweeted them again another phone call, and it is now being investigated, I wont leave it with them they are the manufactors, so to me this is where the blame lies...

So today I have bought my new cooker, a freestanding gas one, retro style it has a glass oven door but only small......

Zizi I am still picking tiny bits of glass up, and I don't know how many times I have hoovered and mopped the floors..

I have just noticed Nanto, there is a consumer company replied to my Tweet on Twitter saying it is disgusting and are asking If I have any photos, this is the sort of thing they would investigate, so see what Elextrolux say think this company is interested...my new cooker is coming Friday..
