What is it like here ?

My youngest son and his wife have taken the decision to accept new jobs within the Company they both work for and it involves moving out of our area to a place called Leek which is about an hour and a half away from us Buxton way I think?.
Do any of you lovely ladies know what its like there it is supposed to be sort of villagey,I can't get to much detail from them as they are working out their time here and back and forth arranging a new home etc.Any info would be good just to get my bearing as to where they are off to.

Glamm, it's not all that far from the Wirral. My cousin lives there, and it's an attractive small market town surrounded by the beautiful North Staffordshire Moors and close to the Peak District National Park. . The nearest big place is Stoke-on-Trent (about 10 miles away). The only downside I can think of is if you get very bad snow you can be cut off for a day or so.

I haven't been for a couple of years, but it has always had nice independent shops, a couple of lovely tearooms. I think it grew up around the textile industry, rather than the pottery industry.

House prices are, I think, fairly low, but obviously that changes but when my cousin bought his place about 10 years ago they were lower than we expected.

Plant - it is lovely, and not very well-known. My cousin loves walking and he really enjoys having so much choice of beautiful places to visit.

When I was little I had an aunt and uncle who lived on the Ashbourne side of the town and going from Stoke to there always seemed like going to a different world!

Well they have made the move and seem very happy,venturing out into the village during their first week they where warmly greeted by locals asking where they had moved from and enquiring what job positions they had taken up,great interest in their dog Tyson who is a soft Malumute cross with a brown eye and blue eye when he looks at you he looks totally cross eyed all part of his charm.
The house and gardens look lovely nice big rooms with such a wonderful garden to 2 x sides,then backs on to open land at the rear with amazing views we can't wait to go and visit just letting them settle in before we desend for a day.

Glamm, how lovely to hear that your DS and DIL have made the move and settled down so well. It is a friendly town, and I'm sure they will get to know people very quickly, plus, of course, dogs are great icebreakers. Their house sounds really nice, and I hope they get a chance to get out and explore the Moors in this nice weather.

I bet you can't wait to go and visit them.
