When I looked after the boys full time they ate everything from Liver, to steak , Cod loin , Chicken Korma ,veg , etc never turned there noses up at anything all home made , Neither will eat Liver now . I think as they get older and go to school their tastes change ,
When I ask what they eating at school they now tend to choose Wraps or Sandwiches or hot dogs and chips , even the schools seem to serve a lot of convenience foods especially senior schools these days , I suppose its what the children demand now ,gone are the days of mince and dumplings or over cooked veg and meat , GS1 says school meals are vile
They have been spoilt with good home cooked meals
Tonight GS1 is having a chicken dinner he would eat roasts every day if we let him , its not the meat or veg that is a problem but the Gravy he loves loads of it and thick , not the most healthiest part of a meal to have on a regular basis is it
Im not fat just 6ft too small

I love looking after my little GS. He is a real character and an absolute delight. He always comes to stay for a few days at a time during the school holidays. Feeding him is without a doubt the biggest challenge for me. He is a fussy eater and my son and DIL don’t like him having processed food, so it is always difficult. He will never try anything new. Breakfast and lunch aren’t too bad but dinner is another matter. When the two older grandchildren came to stay they would eat anything and everything, they still do, but the little one is a nightmare. My son will be going into hospital, hopefully sometime soon for a big operation. I will be going to stay at their house to look after GS. I am already panicking about what I will feed him. I don’t want to worry my DIL about it. She will have enough on her plate with my sons op to contend with.

Sunshine , I sympathise. my 3rd grandchild is a fussy eater.

As far as feeding your GS while your son is in hospital, I think I would concentrate on making things as least stressful for both you and GS at a difficult time. Give him what you know he likes. Not easy though I know, when they are choosy!

Sunshine, as you say, you don't want to add to your DIL's stress levels. Would it be ok to have a chat with her now and ask for suggestions? You might be able to prepare some meals ahead and freeze them for days when he's extra fussy. He'll be missing his daddy so you really want mealtime to go as smoothly as possible.

Does he enjoy helping in the kitchen and doing some cooking himself? I know my GD2 is younger, but she loves making anything that involves cracking eggs.

Ours are not fussy eaters, thank goodness. They each have their own chicken which lives here at Nanna’s house. So, they love collecting the eggs and eating them. They also help Papa grow the vegetables and especially like the carrots and courgettes. They go out and pick them with Papa and then Nanna makes a nice meal with them! I think it’s great fun to learn where food comes from.

Avo, there's nothing quite like freshly harvested home grown food
Our grandchildren love picking cucumbers and tomatoes from our greenhouse. Especially GS1, aged 6 who adores cucumbers and often eats a whole one in the car on the journey from our house to his

GS will eat just about anything, but he's allergic to eggs, so can't have my trusty standby.....eggy bread! When DD was small she loved cucumber and would insist on 'cummy cummy' at any mealtime. This was in the days when cucumber wasn't as readily available in the Winter as it is now...and it was quite expensive!

I would say more but nearly out of battery. Youngest is milk intolerant. GS1 doesn't like anything much...never has. GS 2 getting more picky after he ate everything. GD eats absolutely everything. Not all that keen on mealtimes really.

Thanks Gemini and Daisy. I certainly don’t intend to get into any disputes with GS over what he eats. It will be a stressful enough time for all of us. Good idea is definitely to have some preprepared favourites in the freezer. Thankyou
