Yet another gunman in a US high school

I find these seemingly endless firearm attacks on schools in America heartbreaking. More families mourning loved ones, more communities in shock and saying it mustn't happen again, and still the law allows almost anyone to buy and own a gun. I've talked to so many people over there who see carrying a gun as much of a routine as taking your mobile phone when you go out, and who feel they have an absolute right to do that.

My sympathies to all those affected. It's so very sad.

The suspect is in custody, police say, after the shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia.

This kind of thing happens far too often in America. Their gun laws are far too lax.

    Condolences to all those affected.

Oma, I agree. The knife culture here is frightening. I know stop and search can be controversial but until attitudes change (which takes time) and people see the dangers of carrying lethal weapons, I think that is the only quick-fix deterrent.

There must be so many parents who worry every time their youngsters leave the house in case they get caught up in an attack or fight.

Because of my GD being the subject of an obsessive ( on his part) brief relationship with a very nasty controlling boy this sort of thing worries me.

Gen, I really understand your worries. You need to give youngsters some freedom, but can't help worrying all the time they're out of your sight.
