    ** Corned Beef Hash

We decided this morning that this is what we will have for dinner. The great Hannah Glasse wrote “first, catch your hare”.
This was true of the corned beef. I unstuck the little key thingy from the top of the tin and searched for the flap of metal to attach it to. After feeling all round and failing to find it I stripped the tin of it’s label and there it was! I prised it out and forced the key on to it. After much manipulation I got it to turn...once, and no more. Out came the electric tin opener. (This was an engagement present 49 years ago) no go, it gave up at the corner turn. OH tried, he reverted to the hand tin opener. He managed to open it! Being a helpful man he then opened the other end to push the corned beef through. It shot out at a rate of knots, skidded the length of the work top and along the floor leaving it’s fatty trail.
I did catch it and kill it and make it into corned beef hash with mash on top. It had better taste good!

Grauntie - that's classic. It would have been much easier to catch the hare!

I hope it tastes good and was worth the battle.

Oh I have always hated the stupid little key things! Even when a lot younger and with perfect eyesight I couldn't do it.

For it's own sake I hope the finished dish tasted good Grauntie

          Hope it tasted nice Grauntie.
I always use the electric can opener for opening corned beef tins.
Open both ends, then push it through.

Oma! Dust indeed! As if. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We will eat it soon. I’m hoping the high cooking temperature will kill any bugs. 😁

This really made me laugh 🤣. I imagined you both chasing it around the kitchen!

Grauntie you gave a very funny graphic picture of your fight with the corned beef tin, best laugh for a long time. I hope you enjoyed it.

I think more people would eat tinned corned beef if it wasn’t such a nightmare to extract it from the tin. I hope you enjoyed the hash Grantie and it was worth the challenge!

I'm sure the tins used to be easier to open. I always used to keep a couple of tins in the cupboard for 'emergency meals' - especially when our DSs were at home. But these days it seems a huge hassle to get at the contents without losing a finger or something.

My mum loves corned beef, but I just got her the slices from the deli section!
