What do you do with the rolling pin?

Hopefully, you don't chase your loved ones round the house with it!!

I made scones today and OH wondered why I put the rolling pin under the grill after I'd washed up.

It was my mum's rolling pin and it's lead a long and busy life and has the burn marks to prove it. Mum would regularly forget she'd left it under the grill or in the oven to dry and turn the grill/oven on so it has an assortment of burn marks, but it still smooth and a nice rolling pin to use. Popping it under the grill which is warm from having the oven on dries it off nicely and then I put it in the cupboard.

I never use a rolling pin on scones just gently press into thickness i want ,

When i do use it after its been washed i stand it on the radiator to dry , sometimes in the summer i put it on patio table for the sun to bleach it ,
Mine is my mothers too .

i think they are the type of things you never get rid of they seems to last forever dont they

Oma - I'm still struggling to get the right thickness for my scones. I've made them 5 or 6 times now and they're either too thick or too thin - or both in the same batch!

The least time you handle scones mix the better. Just use hands to shape the dough and then use a cutter. My rolling pin belonged to a lovely lady I used to visit. When I was asked what I would like of hers, without any hesitation I said I would like her rolling pin.

I am thinking of my mother reading this, she had the same rolling pin all her married life, my sister may still have it . I have a marble one, very heavy, always cool and handy. GD2 said on Friday " I like this nan"!

I wash mine, wipe with a tea towel and put it back in the drawer.
Its served me well for 52 years.
It was one of the first things i bought after getting married. I bought it in Woolworths.

Oma - my scones are getting better, and they taste ok. I need to listen to the words of wisdom about not rolling them out. Many thanks to both you and Plant. xx

I wipe it with a tea towel and put it straight back in the drawer, no special treatment and it’s lasted years and years, mine too was my Mum’s!

Avo, I think that's what I do too!

                    Not used it for ages
