    New Flooring

About 3 1/2 years ago we had new flooring in our main bathroom. We chose vinyl and the fitter said it would be all right laid over the existing laminate flooring. We were a bit dubious but they know what they're doing, don't they! Well, no they didin't! It started to lift where the joins in the laminate were and looks an awful mess. We complained straight away and they just didn't want to know. So we've been dithering about what to do with it. OH wanted to tile the floor, but the walls are tiled and I thought two different lots of tiles in such a small space would look odd.

Anyway, today we've been to another shop and chosen waterproof/resistant laminate to replace it. While we were there we decided to do our bedroom floor as well. That's laminate and after 15 years it's looking a bit tired to say the least! OH wanted carpet, but I really like the hard floor - it's easy to clean and he can have a nice fluffy bedside rug to keep his toes warm! So they're coming to measure next week - and think they can do it before that date which must not be mentioned!

So, having said I can't understand why people would buy new furniture or flooring right now, it looks as though that's what we're doing!!

Daisy my SIL would never advise putting vinyl over laminate flooring , it moves and eventually wears where the joints of the laminate are , He even advises you put hard board down over natural floor boards if putting Vinyl down ,
although that's not always easy to do and for some people to expensive ,
What colour did you choose ?
We put a Black vinyl down in our downstairs loo , its being changed after the new year its a nightmare to keep clean it shows every bit of fluff and dirt I hate it , you would think Black would always look clean well it doesn't

Oma, we were doubtful at the time, but the fitter was adamant it would be ok. But he happens to be DIL2's uncle, so it was a little difficult and embarrassing to take the complaint further! Needless to say, we haven't ordered the new flooring from him!

We've chosen a very neutral light beigey-colour which I hope will go with the wall tiles. It's quite boring, but I might get some new curtains to jazz it up a bit.

I can imagine black being hard to keep clean, and I bet Storm only has to walk into the house to get white hairs all over it! A friend here has got black slightly shiny tiles in her cloakroom, and they always look immaculate - but I don't think they use it themselves - they always go upstairs. It kind of defeats the object of a downstairs cloakroom, doesn't it!

Nanto that's what im thinking for my downstairs loo , I have Grey and white striped towels in there so grey would go , my tiles are white with a Black and Chrome boarder so I thought at the time a Black floor would be good

Daisy a nice neutral colour means you can pair it with anything ,
Storm comes through the back door and in this weather not only brings his hair in he brings leaves in too where he's been lying in them I put his food bowls in the loo too as raw food stinks and I don't want it in my kitchen so the floor is never clean when he's hear

Our bathroom flooring is some sort of vinyl (here when we moved in) in a sort of speckled black but mostly black. It never looks clean to my mind and I would like to replace it, especially as we have a small bathroom so it won't cost too much.
We have black tiles in the downstairs loo. The previous owners must have had a thing for black floors!
I think the neural colour is a good choice Daisy.

We have a black and white bathroom so the flooring is black, white and grey, looks like little chips of stone, with a few sparkly bits. It was in the bathroom showroom when we were first looking round and I love it. It doesn’t show any marks, is non slip and very easy to clean.

Gem - I was shocked at how much it is to fit a small bathroom, but I suppose it's very fiddly. OH has arranged to get another quote on Monday.

Enfys - your flooring sounds very attractive, and I love sparkly bits.

We where very lucky to have had a grey flecked non slip flooring already fitted in the wetroom when we moved into the bungalow,I jazzed it up with black and white damask shower curtains and the same patten loo lid,the walls have very small black and grey tiles I finished off with lime green towels which sounds awful but does look very good really.
I am changing the kitchen floor in January and am having a problem deciding what to go for I need something to look good and keep clean as Poppy & Dolly will be coming in from the garden every day once Dolly can go outdoors next week.

I have got vinyl on my bathroom floor. It looks like old fashioned tiling. It is grey, beige blacky white colours. It never looks grubby, probably because it is supposed to be a grubby colour! That is great. The only downside is that even after I have given it a thorough wash it still looks just the same. It almost seems a waste of time washing it. When the fitter fitted it, he laid it on plywood. He did an excellent job. He lifted the loo, basin and removed the bath panel so the vinyl and ply go underneath, so there are no joins where water could seep through. My bathroom suite is white as are the tiles. The walls that aren’t painted are pale greyish colour. I can have a different colour bathroom every week by changing the colour of the towels. It looks great with, orange, yellow, fustian or good old blue towels. My thinking when I was replacing the bathroom was to have something that I wouldn’t get bored with! And it worked.
So Daisy you can jazz up your bathroom just by having some bright accessories.

Sunshine - you might have to come and give me some ideas. It's all white and beige at the moment, and is looking rather boring!

                              Daisy, I’ll come any time.
Gemini. Yea, buy some more, brightly coloured ones.
Oma. White towels are lovely, but they are best for just looking at! Grandkids are great at washing their hands, or is that wetting their hands, then wiping the dirt off on the towels.
