The school that my GD and younger GS go to has its own pool!
This is not quite as wonderful as it sounds. It is open air and quite shallow. It is only used in the second half of the summer term. Sometimes the classes can't take place due to bad weather.

Today was GS's first time in the school pool. It's a perfect depth for the smaller children and he loved it! Lovely weather too. He will get a weekly lesson in there until the end of term, weather permitting.

It seems such a shame to have a pool on site, rare in a state primary school, which can only be used for a few weeks a year. It has been there a long time long before GD now in Year 6, started there.
The children do love it though

Gem - I agree. It's such a shame that it's only used for a few weeks a year. There was an outdoor pool in a comprehensive school I worked in and it was used from Easter to the October half term. The children didn't seem to mind the cold.

The school I worked in has quite a large covered pool, it is let out to swimming classes to help cover the cost.

Plant - that's a good idea. A comp school near us had a new leisure centre built in its grounds (by the Council I think) with an indoor pool, and the school has regular time slots for using it. Win-win - the school got a pool and the town a leisure centre.

T he senior school i went to, had its own pool.
It wasn't outside though. it was in seperate building on the other side of the playground.
Several other schools used to come and use it.

I once worked in a creche which served the users of a swimming pool attached to a comprehensive school! It wasn't my regular job, I worked for a big leisure centre, but sometimes we could pick up extra hours at the school pool crèche

I had a first year (Year 7) tutor group at the school I mentioned, and on a particularly cold and windy day the powers that be decided to have a fire drill. My poor class had literally just got in the pool and ended up having to get out and stand shivering in the playground.
