6 year old grandson spent £45.99 on Minecraft!!

A couple of weeks ago I put Minecraft on our tablet for GS1, as he begged me to. It cost me £6.99, so not an overly expensive treat. I usually only put free games on there for the GC, but he was keen to have this one..
Unfortunately neither he, OH and I knew anything about the game!
OH managed to get stuck down a hole, LOL, and there we remained until GD, aged 9 arrived the following week and helped us out. She did a couple of things and said that next time she and her cousin are at my house together she will help him.
Today I told GS that his cousin had helped us out, so he asked if he could go on it. OH helped him a bit, then he played on his own. I was clearing away his tea things, and keeping any eye on my mum's Christmas cake due out of the oven, when suddenly onto my phone popped a receipt from Google Play for something connected to Minecraft for over £45!!
I found GS still on my tablet, under the dining room table! I asked if he was under there because he had done something wrong? He told me it was OK as he used his money. I told him no he hadn't, and that he hadn't got that much money anyway!!
I didn't want to upset him, and told him not to worry about it, but that he must never buy anything without asking a grown up. I also told him it was also my fault that I didn't have my settings like his mummy did, to prevent this happening.
I am going to change those settings!
I found out that you can ask for refund within 48 hours, so found the right place online, submitted the form with my explanation, crossing my fingers.
Almost immediately I got a message saying my money was refunded.
    PHEW!!

I have no idea what he bought that costs so much and neither does he!

He can't buy anything on their iPad as the settings prevent it. I don't think he realised what would happen until he did it;!

Gem - it's so easily done! Thank goodness you got the money refunded.

I usually only put free games on my iPad for the GCs, but one day I let GS2 persuade me to buy something - it was less than £10 - but of course I had to go through the Apple Store, using my password. Afterwards, just in case I changed my password because GS1 had seen my type it in - it wasn't that I don't trust him, but .....!! A while later I tried to change the password back to the original, which was easier for me to remember, but I couldn't. Apple don't allow you to use the same password for a whole year!

Gem it is so easy done , ours have done the same on a few occasions when they knew OH's Password . so all settings changed and passwords , now they are older they know never to do anything without asking ,
GS1 sometimes buys stuff for games but only with our permission , GS2 doesn't now as he only uses ours occasionally ,
You read where kids have run up hundreds of pounds without parents knowing don't you , so glad you had a notification on your phone so you found out instantly and able to get a refund .

Gem, this does happen quite often. I have read a few times about it on MSE.
Pleased you were able to get a refund.

I think he was worried! His face was red and hot for a while. I thought it was maybe because he wasn't well. He wasn't due any Calpol so I just gave him a large drink of water, which went quickly. He was fine later, all cool, so I think it was an emotional flush!! I think my cheeks were probably hot too until I sorted out the refund

Gem, I'm glad he was ok, poor little chap, but I bet he will be very careful in future.
