      Figure of speech ladies "knitting by the fire" traditionally portrayed as an activity favoured by old grannies...there is certainly nothing wrong with it whether you are 9 or 90!

        Phew! That's ok then ..... iv'e knitted two baby hats for our new baby today.... had to do a pink one and a blue one as we don't know what colour we're having. I'd hate to be thought of as being old

          When we moved out of our lovely four bed house almost fifteen years ago there were so many unfinished knitting projects that my husband actually stopped making jokes about them. Every now and then these days during a conversation when I make comments he says "go away or I will buy some wool and needles" or "I have signed you up for the WI so get your knitting needles out". This invariably earns him a big slap,
